We gave our design team a fun challenge. We asked them what kind of room they'd like to create in their own homes. Then, we asked them to create it. Find out what these talented ladies desired and how they would make their dream come true.
Heather Hele, Jerome's Accessory Buyer. "I want a room where my family can relax together. My husband and I like to watch movies, snack and hang out. We also have 2 young children so we do a lot of snuggling. We make a lot of messes. I want the room to be nice. Not fancy, but cozy."
Heather chose leather, it's easy to clean and very durable. It can take a lollipop left on the cushion with ease. The Remington sofa and loveseat with Jerome's-gel in the seat cushions is perfect for cuddling or taking a nap. Handy baskets make picking up toys easy and provides a place to store your throws. A soft ottoman means no sharp corners as little ones learn to walk. A tray on top makes balancing drinks, popcorn bowls, and cups a breeze. Tie it all together with a rug in a dark color that hides the inevitable stain or two.
Leigh Ann Conate, Jerome's Visual Designer. "I want a dining room where I can host big dinners for family and friends. It should be a table full of memories and good times. I want to pass it on to my children. And some storage and display space wouldn't hurt either."
Leigh Ann chose our solid wood, durably constructed Hacienda dining table. With two leaves it expands to a whopping 112", perfect for large gatherings. It's sturdy and built to last. It feels good to sit at this table. Leigh also chose a combination of bench seating paired with stylish upholstered chairs. You'll be amazed how many kids can fit on a bench! Her storage problems are solved. Finally a place for grandmother's china. The open concept Corbin shelf has a rustic feel and plenty of room for dining essentials. This transitional piece is also the perfect accent for an office or living room. A soft rug cozies up the space and it's busy pattern is ideal for hiding spills that come with fun family dinners.
Cristiana Sa, Jerome's Senior Visual Designer, wants a hardworking home office, a family-friendly creative space. "I want a family office. I need space to work, pay bills, and plan the family schedule. My kids need a place to do homework and craft projects. My husband often does work at night too. It would be great to have a multi-functional room that serves us all."
To create this space where the adults and kids can gather together, Cristiana chose the Venice dining table and server. The two-tone finish is sturdy and has a fresh, modern look. The server is great for storage and easy access to games and art supplies. It can also double as an extra work surface. The trestle base allows for plenty of legroom around the table. Cristiana paired the table with 2 padded benches that are more versatile than chairs. Cowhide stools are super cute and add additional seating without bulk. Colorful ottomans offer even more seating when friends are over while giving a fun pop of color. As an unexpected twist, Cristiana ditched the candles from the centerpiece and turned the holders into a great place to art supplies such as markers, crayons, and scissors.
Jennifer Campos, Art Director. Jennifer was looking for a room where she could play while company's away. If you don't have room to spare, it's a good idea to have a guest room that does double duty. "I want a family room that we can enjoy, but leads a double life as a guest room when my son and grandkids come to town for the weekend."
Jennifer chose a sectional sleeper. It's great for hanging out, but when it's time for company to come, it transforms into a very comfy sleep surface. These sleepers have come a long way. You can even upgrade the innerspring mattress to a Jerome's-gel sleeper mattress for added support and comfort. The storage chaise and storage ottoman provide plenty of room for pillows and blankets. Jennifer added a large dresser with big, deep drawers to make unpacking easy for those deliciously long visits. Colorful accent pillows keep things cozy. Don't forget lighting which is key to any room. The Iron Cage table lamp has a unique look with depth and clarity.
Marnie Calvert, Jerome's Visual Supervisor. Top of Marnie's list was a naturally relaxing master retreat where she could escape to and kick off her shoes, a space that would encourage peace, raw wood, neutral tones, and calming touches. "I want a bedroom where I can feel tranquil and serene. Outside the door may be chaos, but I need my bedroom to promote peace."
Marnie started by choosing an upholstered bed, the pinnacle of comfort, surrounded by total softness while she sleeps. She had a co-worker, a certified sleep specialist, guide her to the perfect mattress. The mattress is the most critical piece in a bedroom, so she was fitted for her mattress using Jerome's Complete Fit process. To keep clutter at bay, Marnie chose the multi-functional Dublin console with room for storage. She incorporated a comfy side chair to balance the room, just remember not to load it up with clothes! The rustic cabinet has the natural feeling of reclaimed wood and helps ground the rest of the decor. To soften the look, textiles were added. Marnie chose a plush rug to make feet hitting the floor in the morning feel good. Accent pillows and throws were also added for color and texture. No room is finished until accents are in place. Pair a set of rustic candle holders in your retreat to set a great mood.
